The solar shading for the glass panels on the roofs of the Museum of Art and History in the Brussels Cinquantenaire is a true achievement. A really prestigious project for which all departments of Helioscreen worked together. Our partner Guthrie Douglas supplied the systems.
The roofs of the Museum of Art and History were in need of thorough renovation. A genuine challenge, since the museum consists of a combination of different types of roof structures and roof coverings, which are interrupted in several places by large glazed areas.
These glazed areas also had to be fitted with efficient exterior solar shading. The museum opted for tensioned systems with Sergé 3%. The screen covers, some of which had to be trapezoid-shaped, were manufactured with great precision by Helioscreen Tailored, our fabricator department.
All Helioscreen departments had a role to play: the weaving department for weaving the Sergé, the confection department for making the screen covers and Helioscreen Projects for installing the complete blinds.
The Museum of Art and History is the largest museum in Belgium and houses exceptionally rich and unique collections from all over the world. The renovation of the roofs contributes to the museum's image and to the high-quality preservation of its vast collections.
The roofs were also provided with insulation and the single-glazed skylights were all replaced with thermally insulating glazing. This and the automated sun blinds will enable the museum to reduce its energy consumption both in summer for cooling and in winter for heating.
